Ways To Deal With Body Shaming

BODY SHAMING “, it’s a word that has been used to subject or criticize the defaults as per physical appearance is concerned. Be it skinny or chubby, male or female, everyone is experiencing this shame at some point in time. Whereas people’s minds are concerned, then as per my view, those who bully others or objectify one another as per their physicality are genuinely sick. Instead of bullying others, they should rather think of getting a mental health counselor because somehow, they are demoralizing others and spreading a negative sort of wave in society.

At the moment, this activity is literally spreading like a wildfire which is not normal for the human race. Hearing something cruel about yourself from others is pathetic, and disheartening. In fact, it can lead anyone to some serious mental health issues like- depression, eating disorders, taking excessive stress, etc. Often, body shaming comments are passed in two ways.  Either they are upfront (at your face) or covered with sarcasm and indirect humiliation.

You will normally find people commenting “oh! you are too thin or thick, or you have such a bad scar or your face is too big or skinny”. Well, you might find these comments pretty normal, but it’s eventually hurtful, and being said repeatedly can generally affect you and break you into pieces. Either you will have to have the courage to shut the other person or suffer in silence. The best would be the former ones because then, they will never have the courage to repeat it again.

Let’s get into the deep details and know how to overcome this.

How to Overcome Body Shaming?

  • First of all, you don’t need to pay attention to those who only target or enjoy making fun of you.
  • Secondly, understand your body, and accept the way you are. When you accept yourself in the way you look, be it your color or shape or anything, nobody gets the courage to harm your emotions.
  • Don’t hide. Yes, if you have a problem with people always demoralizing you, then you really need to speak your voice and make them taste their own medicine by simply not giving much importance to them. First, start by letting them know that it’s not correct, and you feel wrong about being judge unnecessarily.
  • Feel proud of yourself. Yes, pat yourself as you have come this far, by breaking all the glass ceilings. Often treat yourself, and be around those who make you special.
  • Love yourself, and accept the fact that sometimes your body also needs space and wants to be in the same position. You need to stop thinking to look a certain “perfect way/shape”. There’s yet no ‘perfection’ where body types are concerned. Yes, everyone has a different body type with different nutrients, numerous hormones, medicines, and a natural state.
  • Learn to ignore others. You should really not pay attention to what others say, or have an opinion about you. If you practice this, half of your life problems will eventually get solved.
  • Be grateful. Yes, you need to thank the universe that you have been given this life where you are able to have good food, a proper house, a friends-family, and a good financial status. Always be grateful and appreciative of others, and help them heal from their pain.

We need to make our surrounding a happy place not by demoralizing others but by uplifting them. Yes, our words play an important role and can either make a person happy or hurt them deeply. So, always choose your words wisely and be kind. Spreading positivity will only make your vibration high and the world a better place to be.
